Don't be fooled by thinking that the de'longhi bar pump espresso machine only makes espressso shots! The drip tray can slide right out, and easily accomodate larger cups, making it perfect for lattes.
It has a built in water tank, that can be removed and refilled with convenience. The water tank is a large 37 ounce volume tank, making it perfect for making multiple drinks.
What makes this a really good machine compared to some of the others in the list, is that it comes with two coffee filters, one for a single shot of espresso or double shot of espresso. These are easily stored in the machine, making it easy to access for later.
#5 - Breville BES870XL Barista Express
Another best latte machine and one of my favorite breville machines, and also my first! It comes with a built in bean grinder that grinds whole fresh coffee beans to acute fines. There is a small control knob, that allows you to adjust the bean grind size making it either really fine or a bit coarse.
This feature will really help you improve the quality of your espresso shots, making them really good for the perfect latte or other milk based drink.
It has an incredibly large water tank, at 67 ounces, which is one of the features that makes this machine less prone to constant water refilling.
This is a semi-automatic coffee machine which means it has a boiler, portafilter and a switch to activate/deactivate the pump which perfoms the extraction.
#6 - The Keurig K-Cafe Cappuccino and Latte Maker
The Keurig K-Cafe latte maker is a perfect addition for anyone who loves to make lattes with ease. Not only can it make lattes, it is perfect for making cappuccinos and other coffee drinks with its k-cup pods or the use of ground coffee.
It is perfect for the kitchen top and fits snug under kitchen cabinets, and has the ability to make four cup sizes, 6 oz, 8 oz, 10 oz and 12 oz drinks.
To brew a coffee, simply push the coffee button on the top of the machine or to brew a latte/cappuccino just push the "latte & capp" button.
What I really like about this machine is that it can turn off after two hours if the auto off feature has been set, meaning you can make your coffee or latte and just be on your way. If you just want to leave the Keurig on all the time, just make sure the auto off has been set to off.
The frother, which sits in the side of the machine, is dishwasher safe and allows you to frother regular, soy, almond and skim milk and even allows you to froth cold milk.
It even has level marks embedded in the side of the frother, which shows you the perfect volume of milk for latte's or cappucinos.
#7 - Breville BES920BSXL Dual Boiler Espresso Machine
This Breville BES920BSXL Dual Boiler espresso machine is a top of the line, semi-automatic coffee machine! It has a dual stainless steel boiler and dual Italina pumps for simultaneous espresso extraction.
Although it doesn't have a preprogrammed button for making a latte instantly, it does have the technology to produce the perfect espresso shot that will go really well with the right frothed milk.
The biggest feature is being able to control and adjust the temperature of the steam boiler to 265 - 285 F and also comes with a water hardness test that you enter into the machine, and the machine will let you know when to descale it.
It also has pre-programmable presets for shot volume for single or double shot or if you want to go manual you can. This machine is the ultimate machine for a coffee connoisseur who wants the ultimate precision when making their lattes.
If you've had coffee machines in the past, and looking for your next investment then this will be it!
#8 - De'Longhi EC155 Pump Espresso and Cappuccino Maker
The De'Longhi EC155 is one of the most inexpensive machines that will make lattes and cappuccino's easily! Unlike a Keurig or Nespresso machine, where you put a pod in and hit "go", you have to ensure you have the right settings.
A water tank is neatly situated within the rear of the machine and holds about 33 ounces of water and is removable for easy cleaning.
There is a built in frother that will assist you with frothing your milk to make the perfect latte, and steam can be controlled via the knob at the top of the machine.
The drip tray can be removed, allowing a 3" cup to be used instead of a regular shot glass. A big dissapointment with this machine is that the frother does not have an automatic self cleaning function at the end.
Meaning you'll have to let steam pass, and if you forget to do this step over time, milk residue can be left behind and calciphy over time, making it really hard to clean.
#9 - Dolce Gusto Genio 2 Cappuccino and Latte Pod Machine
Very easy to operate the Dolce Gusto cappuccino and latte pod machine simply takes coffee pods from a variety of different pod flavors.
This brand has specialty coffee pods by Nescafe and to make a latte you'll simply need to purchase dolce gusto vanilla latte mochhiato pods for example and load them into the machine. You'll have two pods, a milk pod and a coffee pod, and the two will be used to make one standard drink.
I had several of these machines for years, but wasn't really a fan of the specialty coffee that included the powdered milk capsule. Because the milk will taste different than making a latte with chilled soy, fresh, almond milk!
Other than that, they make really good starter machines and are perfect for anyone on a budget.
#10 - De'Longhi EC702 Semi-Automatic Espresso Maker
A best latte machine for any home has to be the De'Longhi EC702 Semi-Automatic Espresso makers. It automatically self-primes and also includes a water indicator level, meaning you'll know what it is time to refill the 44 ounces water resovior tank.
It comes with a descaler, a presurised portafilter with a double and single filter basket. The machine isn't that tall and also very light, meaning it's perfect for the counter top.
The water resovior has a float, which acts as a visual aid, to help you see when the water tank is running low. Helping you reduce the risk of running the boiler dry and damaging it.
By having a pressurised portafilter you have the option of using pre-ground coffee, a pod or using freshly grinded coffee beans. However it does not come with a bean grinder.
The machine does have a built in tamper, but unlike some of the Breville machines, the tamper cannot be removed making it really hard to level off and tamp your ground coffee.
It's a great machine to have and is definately a step up from the Dolce Gusto Genio 2 model.
Best Latte Machine FAQ’s
So that’s the big list of some of the best coffee machines that can make a good latte! I covered a range based on features, ease of use and price so that I got most budgets on the table.
Now that I’ve covered that I may have used some jargon in my review of the best latte maker and wanted to give you my answers to some frequently asked questions.
What is a Latte?
A latte is simply a drink made of ground coffee or beans grinded, water and milk. The milk is usually steamed and has been aerated to give it a bit of a milky soft taste.
Sometimes regular milk can be substituted with different types, dependent on what your preferences are.
I like to have flavored lattes sometimes with caramel or a hint of butterscotch to make it a little more tastier.
How to choose the best coffee machine for your latte?
Maybe there were a bit too many options for a coffee machine and you need some help. Well it all depends what is perfect for you.
There are definitely certain aspects of machines that will generally resonate better with certain individuals compared to others.
For example, the latte machine I purchased has an automatic purger built into the frother and also it has a touch screen to choose what I want to make.
A bit fancy I know, but if it fits within your budget and there are features you like about it then go for it!
What is a Milk Frother & Brew Settings?
These two requirements are really needed to make the perfect latte. The milk frother is responsible for steaming the milk to perfection and coupled with a good brew will lead to the best latte you’ve ever tasted.
A milk frother or steam wand is definitely a must, some coffee machines have this built in, some have it as an external device like some of the nespresso machines and some don’t have it. Don’t worry, I’ve left these out of this coffee machine review.
Other machines will give certain settings on brew time required to get the right volume and consistency of your ground coffee.
What Should I Look for in A Latte Machine
You’ll need to find something that you’ll ultimately be happy with and there could be a range of factors such as convenience, price and ease of use that you need to consider.
A great machine is something you’ll keep for years before needing to replace it.
Cleaning and Maintenance Considerations
One of the biggest mistakes I made when purchasing my first latte machine was that the steam wand was completely integral to the machine.
This led to me not being able to clean it properly and over the years milk residue got left behind and eventually calcified (not a good thing to happen).
When looking for a new latte machine, consider how easy it is to clean it and what happens if you need maintenance on it.
A good machine will have features like a self purging steam wand (automatic cleaning function) or the steam wand can disassemble with ease, so that you can give it a good clean.
Always be sure to check your machine has a maintenance warranty, in case it breaks down or becomes unusable.
The Perfect Latte Machine Size
So what is the perfect latte machine size? Well again there is no perfect size as they all come in different shapes and forms.
However the one thing you should consider is where it will sit in your kitchen and if you have enough head clearance from cupboards.
Getting this right will leave you more satisfied with your new coffee machine.
Does it Need a Coffee Grinder?
No it does not need a coffee grinder, however if you wish to grind your own coffee beans then consider having this feature.
Latte machines can take coffee pods, coffee grinds or coffee beans (the beans need to be ground first). However, it all depends on the machine that you purchase, so make a note of this.
I recommend getting a coffee grinder built in, so that you can purchase coffee beans and have freshly ground coffee when you make your latte it will have the best taste.
What is the Best Coffee Machine for Latte
The best machine, if you have the budget, would have to be the breville barista touch. This machine is awesome as it has features such as touch selection to make a latte.
Basically the machine has been pre-programmed with settings to make a great latte and many other types of drinks (long or short black). It has a built in coffee grinder, which uses freshly ground beans to make your drink.
If you don’t want to use the coffee grinder to grind beans, you can use ground espresso as well since it comes with different filters (for beans or for grounds).
The other neat feature is that it has an automatic self purger for the steam wand, meaning it releases a high pressure jet of water after steaming milk. It leads to cleaner internals for a long time before having to disassemble it to clean.
This is my most recent purchase and probably one of the best ones I’ve purchased in a while. The only downside is that it costs a bit, which can be a turn off for those on a budget.
Final Thoughts on the Best Latte Machine!
Our conclusion, after some intense consideration, comparison and though has to be the Nespresso Lattissima Plus by De’Longhi as the best latte machine. It is something that will fit on all kitchen counter tops as well as under some overhead kitchen cupboards.
The simplicity of operating this machine and making the perfect latte is everything for beginners or those looking for an entry machine.
The runner up for those on a budget that want good value for money has to be Mr. Coffee Caffe Latte Maker which will make you lattes with little effort. As a bonus it also has a cool recipe booklet which allows you to whip up over 15 recipes!
